If it is cold, wet and blowing a gale it must mean that calving is about to start at the Ennerdale Fold.
True to form the Ennerdale Highland cows started to deliver their calves in the foulest weather of the year.
The calves are sired by Ceallach of Ennerdale and Bhaidel of Ennerdale and so far we have many bouncing calves who seem nonplussed by the unpleasant meteorological conditions.
Touch wood, so far there have been no problems with the births I hope the weather will improve throughout the calving period.
